Continuing our interview series, here's Annie of Girls Out West.

Question: First off, what do you do at Girls Out West and what other sites do you operate?
Answer: I'm Annie, the web master, photographer, video maker at Girls Out West. This is the only site I run.

Question: In a nutshell, how would you describe Girls Out West?
Answer: Girls Out West is non-conformist, always daring, always surpising and never boring. You will see girls in all their diversity. They will make you laugh; they will make you hard. You'll want to keep coming back for more. They celebrate schlock, trash, maverick film-making, and primal urges.

Question: How did you come into the adult genre?
Answer: For the last 10 years I have been working for men's magazines, both in Australia and the US. I studied sexual fetishes at university and have always been interested in human sexuality in all its manifestations. So publishing my work on the internet was a great opportunity to show the world my rude photos and video. I love anything that's taboo and dark.

Question: What made you decide to start an adult site?
Answer: I love exploring the darker hidden side of people's sexuality. I'm excited by the fact that people are getting off on my perverse images. I was really frustrated and bored because I didn't have anywhere to show my work. I'm a very independent entrepreneur with a punk attitude toward the establishment and mainstream, so I want to show you all that porn doesn't have to be the same old bullshit. Even before I had the site, I was shooting video of orgies, masturbation and fetish stuff.

Question: What are your insights regarding the niches that you cover?
Answer: I love amateur girls because they are natural, healthy, fun and often do shoots because they want to put their sexuality into the world (not just for the money). They get off knowing that guys all over the world are getting off! I think surfers can get very jaded by mainstream porn with false girls and want to see girls that are available,
accessible, and hot. Chicks that you could pick up if you met them in pub.

Question: The competition in the adult genre is growing steeper by the day. Just what makes Girls Out West different from your competition?
Answer: Girls Out West is very intimate. �I get to know the girls, what they like, what turns them on, their darker sexual side, so this makes it easy for me to portray the "real" girl because I feel like I know her. I often become good friends with the models. Many live near me and are always popping in. I re-shoot many of the favourites and document their sex lives as they experience new things. The videos are very personal as the girls expose all aspects of their lives - from the orgy that they had the night before, or their first anal experience. Many models interact by "blogging" on the forums with the members. And the members "picture blogging" is hilarious and entertaining. The girls enjoy the positive affirmation and the fact that they are turning guys on turns them on. Models post very confessional threads about their bisexuality, motherhood, anal, boyfriends, relationships etc - so the members get to know the "real" girl behind the pictures and video.

Question: In this industry, members are generally considered as the "lifeblood." What is the best thing about your members?
Answer: I love the interaction with the members. I love their photos and stories. I am curious to know as much about them as possible. I encourage feedback, comments, and suggestions about what they want to see on the site. Often these suggestions can be implemented immediately. My vision is from a woman's perspective (that's why I can capture the girls so well), and I need to know from the members what they like and want to see more of.

I enjoy getting private emails, private messages, and seeing shots of the members' hard cocks that they post on the forums. I feel that I have made so many new friends on my site, and I genuinely care about the models and the members. This site is the best thing I've ever done. It is everything to me - more important than my own sex life really - and that is sad.....hahaha!
The members love participating in the competitions, beauty pageants, and orgasm tallies that are run on the forums.

Question: What about dislikes? Is there anything that you do not like about your members?
Answer: I wish more members would communicate with me - either via the forums or by email. I want to know everything about their sex life, what gets them off. They should definitely flirt more with me and encourage me to show more of myself on girlsoutwest.

Question: Why don't we shift the gears a bit and talked about what goes on behind the scene. For starters, how do you choose the themes?
Answer: I collaborate with the models very closely. We hang out together, and I get to know her intimate secrets very quickly. I find out what her interests are, what turns her on, what makes her wet and then organize the shoots around that. I do a lot of outdoor shoots in industrial locations, country themes, and suburban houses. More and more, I invite the girls into my own bedroom, where it's very conducive to masturbating and having sex. If the model is comfortable in the environment/location, then she'll be more relaxed and willing to go just that bit further and show more of herself. I also shoot the girls in their own homes as well - so you can see her life unfold before your very eyes.

Question: What about the story lines? Who comes up with them?
Answer: I encourage the girls to express their true selves so we come up with ideas together. Girls Out West is very much a collaboration with the models and myself. The girls have all the control; I am merely the mechanism to make it all happen. That's why the girls love this site so much and want to keep coming back - because they set the scene, wear their own clothes, perform acts that get them off, and bring their girlfriends along for a bi-sexual experience which is devoid of a male gaze. Question: Content update is a very important feature in a site. Just how often do you shoot photo shoots?
Answer: I shoot numerous shoots per week - from 3 to 7 shoots a week. And these can be solo girls, then the girls bring their friends along for girl/girl. Sometimes if the girls have a new boyfriend, they will fuck their boyfriend on camera.

Question: During those shoots, have you worked with different photographers?
Answer: Primarily I am a photographer (university educated with a degree in Media Arts, Photography, Film Making and Journalism) so I have worked with assistants, but rarely other photographers. It's a very solitary profession, you know. It's about you and the camera - and the camera giving you license to go anywhere, do anything! That's what I like.

Question: I'm sure your members are most curious about the models. How do you choose them for the site?
Answer: I advertise and interview all the girls myself so I get to know them very quickly. I choose girls who are attractive, likeable, sexy, exhibitionistic (or shy - they're the ones who will shock you the most), and girls who are confident in their skin. I like a girl who is sexy and smart, can tell a good story about what happened at the pub last night, and can have a real orgasm on camera.

Question: Any future plans that you care to share with us?
Answer: I would like to feature webcams, live web shows, sell DVDs, introduce cool functions, both back-end stuff and front of house stuff. The movies are maverick in style and inspired by film-makers like Jim Jarmusch, Russ Myer, John Waters and David Lynch. They can be darkly humorous, shlock, trash, vaudeville - but always entertaining. I love to shock, but I'm finding it harder to shock myself these days. Do you ever wonder what it's like being a porn webmaster? Well, wonder no more. We've interviewed some adult webmasters, and here is our first in a series of interviews: Amateur Canada Webmaster interview.

Question: First off I wanted to ask how did you come into the adult genre?
Answer: We are the dinosaurs of the adult internet genre. We started years ago in Canada running BBS's (bulletin board systems) which was how communities and the internet (so to speak) was many moons ago. We had a bunch of amateur photos from the regular big companies that we put online at our site and people would call in with their modems to view our stuff and commentary. That was long, long, long ago.

Question: What made you decide to launch an adult site?
Answer:  With the internet coming out we saw massive potential to offer our own adult twist to things. This did not happen at first, as the new technology had to take time to get used to, and we did not start shooting our content until years back ourselves. But it all came natural.  It was meant to be.

Question: What sites do you currently operate?
Answer: We run several sites.  Our first one, Amateur Canada , is our premiere website featuring amateur Canadian women from coast to coast. Our second site is Nightclubgirls. This site is about the after parties and fun that is involved after we go out and have fun dancing etc. It's a great concept reality site that people seem to love--and yes, the majority of models are all Canadian as well. We also have Just Coeds, which is offered free to all members of Amateur Canada, as of now. It's a fully hardcore website showing off amateur coeds to milfs and more! Our newest sites are Cameltoe Canada, and Handjob Canada.

Question: You've been in the business for a long time now and I'm sure you've encountered a wide range of niches. Now, what are your insights about the niches that you cover?
Answer: It's great! We pride ourselves on working with new comers and couples who just love to try and explore their sexuality on camera. It's not easy sometimes but the videos and photos themselves prove that the women enjoy working with us, and that goes both ways.

Question: The competition on the adult entertainment industry had become much tighter nowadays.   What makes your sites different from those thousands in the market?
Answer: Most of the amateur websites I see out there power back models and just want new faces on their sites. I am sure it does them well but we take on a different approach. You will see on our site that models come back after years of not working with us and do more, as they just love it! Our site has many videos of our models and photosets because we want our members to really enjoy and see the amateur models having fun!

Question: Any webmaster would agree that the lifeblood of the website is the members. What is the best thing about your members?
Answer: Members on an adult site are typically quiet. I do get a lot of emails saying keep it up and requests, which I love. We fulfill many requests, as the ladies jump with excitement when we call them.  They love the attention!

Question: Let's shift the gears a bit and talk about what goes on behind the scenes. How do you choose the themes?
Answer: One of two ways! Firstly we allow the models to do whatever they want! What better way than to explore exactly what the lady has in her head (fantasy) and do what she envisioned. Lastly we will just be influenced by her natural beauty and the surroundings. We just make things up that would suit her.

Question: What the about stories?  Who comes up with them and how?
Answer: We don't really have a story line when it comes to the amateur site. Models pick what they would like, or we do, and we just go with it--nothing is as planned.

Question: Content updates are really important when it comes to adult sites. How often do you do photo shoots?
Answer: This is an easy answer.  We shoot every time we have a spare amount of time to do so! A lot of models send in their content as well, but we shoot once a week or so, and sometimes much more, as we run several sites.

Question: During these photo shoots, have you worked with different photographers?
Answer: Of course! We love to work with new photographers in the business as they still maintain that amateur feel and, to be blunt, aren't experienced enough, so it works well with the models and members who just have fun and be natural. I do not like the porn machines that are out there.

Question: Now lets move on to the part that your members are waiting for--the models. How do you choose the models for your sites?
Answer: We shoot almost everyone! I can't rely on my own tastes. I see a woman and all her beauty and just know it's a fit. The only prerequisite is to smile, don't be fake and to have fun!

Question: What about dislikes?  Is there anything in particular that you do not like about your members?
Answer: We have so many ideas and things we want to do. We need more members of course to fuel the creativity we have and find more amazing beautiful Canadian amateur women!

Question: Finally, do you have any future plans you want to share with us?
Answer: We want to expand our sites. And work on our reality site and maybe another, but not get too big and lose that personal feel. We will be doing interviews with models and adding many new interactive features coming out very soon. It's all very exciting.

Greetings, my fellow porn fans; I'm Tamesin.  You may have seen some of my reviews on Adult Reviews.

I'm going to be blogging about some of my experiences writing porn reviews.  The first thing I look for in a paysite is how easy the navigation is.  Let's face it, when you enter a members' area, you don't want to spend much time figuring out how to see the good stuff.  Navigation shouldn't be hard; the only thing that should be hard is... well... something else. (wink)  Because of this, I like very simple navigation.  Even if some paysites have a ton of content, I still feel their menu can, and should, be simple. 

Most paysites have easy navigation, and it's greatly appreciated.  Some sites, however, have very misleading menus.  I've seen instances where they have more than one menu, with slightly different wording on each.  For instance, they may have the choices of "Directory" and "Models."  A member will think these menu items will link to two entirely different areas.  Not always.  This is when I get frustrated.  When you're a member, you want to get as much bang for your buck.  You want to believe you've seen everything in that members' area.  If you see menu items that are worded slightly different, yet link to the same thing, you lose some confidence in the paysite.  As I said, it's misleading and a waste of time.

I've also seen a couple paysites where you click on a menu item, and it contains links to other parts of the members' area that aren't listed on the main menu.  This starts to turn into a maze, and pretty soon your eyes are crossed!  Nope, porn shouldn't lead you on a wild goose chase where you need to pack a compass or leave a trail of bread crumbs to get you back home.

I oftentimes wonder why a paysite makes navigation confusing.  Are they trying to make it look like they have more content?  That doesn't fool a paysite member.  Are they trying to be helpful using different wording, thinking maybe a different title will catch your attention?  Hardly.  As a member, you're going to click on every link to see the content anyway.  It's just cruel when a paysite teases a member into thinking there's more than what there actually is.  

Ideally, I like the menu up top so I don't have to go searching for it.  The home page may be quite big, where you have to scroll down to see a bunch of the content.  In that case, I think the same menu options should be at the bottom. 

I guess when it comes to a paysites' navigation, my style is K.I.S.S. - Keep it Simple, Sweetie.
