First impression

In this day and age of advanced technology, traveling to the video store for a skin flick hardly seems necessary; in fact, it's quickly becoming a thing of the past. And why shouldn't it? There's plenty of places on the world-wide-web that offer the same service at a much more reasonable price, and probably with a better selection to boot! Case in point: DVD Box boasts that it has over two-thousand titles, all of which can be downloaded directly to your hard-drive, and thirty-one niches to choose from. Join me, on a journey to the shadowy netherworld of adult video ... if you dare.

Our opinion

I've always felt that ease of navigation plays a vital role in the success of any website. I believe this to be doubly true, particularly when it comes to archive sites. An online 'DVD House' needs special attention when it comes to how their material is organized. Luckily for us, whoever is in charge here really has their shit together. It's rare to see so much effort put forth into the making of user-friendly layout.

Topping the page you'll find the site's banner. It sports a stylish 'DVD Box' logo and a nifty, java-based clock that 'counts down' to the time of the next DVD's release. The best of both worlds: it serves a purpose, and looks damn cool doin' it, too!

On the left-hand side of the page, you'll see a vertical menu with 31 niches to choose from: Alt Porn, Amateur, Anal, Asian, BBW, Bi, Black, Blowjob, Busty, Classic/Vintage, Euro, Fetish, Gangbang, Gay, Granny / GILF, Hand Job, Hardcore, Indian, Interracial, Latin Lesbians, Mature/MILF, Orgy, P.O.V, Porn Stars, Solo, Squirt, Teen, Threesome, Tranny, and Voyeur.

As you can see, it's quite diverse selection. Naturally, with such a large number of niches, some categories will have more to choose from than others; however, I've only noticed this with a few. The vast majority of them have at least 20, and some well over fifty. In addition, you also have the ability to browse by studio, series, or actor. And if that's not enough for ya, there's also a bug free (as far as I can tell) search engine.

Clicking a category will bring you to a series of pages, all with an assortment of titles from that particular niche. One thing I like is that you have the power to choose how many are listed per page. Want sixteen? Fine. Want ninety-six? Have it your way! Like I said, lots of options here.

Each title has its own page, with an assortment of steamy stills for individual scenes, and valuable information about the DVD: The series, category, stars, and even a two paragraph synopsis. Clicking a cover reveals, through clever flash presentation, an enlarged version of it. All the better, it adds to the overall 'video store' feel.

The films themselves are always broken up in a series of scenes. At the time, there is no option for downloading full-length titles; however, this is understandable. Such large files of this quality would surely be a massive. Still, I can't say that I'm not disappointed.

The clips can, however, be streamed or directly downloaded with a slew of format options: vop, 3gp, divx, flv, mov, mp4, mpg and ipod. The ones I've tried have impressed me greatly. Naturally, quality will differ from title to title, as they're shot by different studios, and sometimes even different decades. Fortunately, the majority of these would be considered good-quality, regardless of which format or title you choose. I'm not sure I'd go as far as to call any of them 'DVD Quality', but that goes for most sites of this genre, as well.

I found that streaming the videos works quite well. The buffer-rates were fantastic! They load fast and show no signs of choppiness on my moderate, cable connection. You also have the option of 'Big' or Small' for direct downloads. This is basically their equivalent of 'high' and 'low' quality. I might add, direct download speeds were excellent, averaging 900 KB per second!

Conclusion

DVD Box may not be the best or biggest site in its field, but it's still, in my opinion, a contender. Its wide variety of niches, user-friendly layout and especially video formats were plenty enough to win me over. There's enough jerk-worthy DVDs here to keep you busy for some time to cum. I'd proudly recommend it over many of the higher-priced 'DVD Archive' sites out there.
