These guys don't waste any time in showing you the goods. You say "Yes, I'm 18" and you're immediately bombarded with some flashy hardcore pornography and lots of hyperbole about the quality and amount of porn available on their site. They've got these short, repeating animated GIFs that remind me eerily of the giant video billboards in Blade Runner. The preview page is VERY busy, with almost 90 thumbnails on the first page alone. Instead of a standard tour they let you see large thumbnails of every set they've got to offer- talk about putting your cards on the table. This is a good way to get people into the site since they get to see plenty, though I wonder what the "spank through" ratio is on a site with so much free stuff to offer (that's a term I just made up to describe a potential customer who spanks it to the free stuff then decides he doesn't want to pay... I'm very clever).
The main members' page thankfully cools down a bit. Strangely, though, you don't go right to the BabesOnFilm material- instead you get a whole page of links to all the sites within this network. In fact, BabesOnFilm doesn't even stand out on this page- it's just another one of the sites. It would make more sense to me if the BOF stuff was right up front and all these other sites (there are 8 total) were relegated to a "Bonus sites" section. Since I'm just reviewing BOF, I just click through to that particular site and it opens in another window. Curiouser and curiouser...
Just like the preview pages, the main member page of BabesOnFilm hits you right away with the goods. The latest set gets a huge thumbnail (indeed, so large it's fuzzy) and 4 smaller thumbs just like those that appeared on the preview. Below that you get links to download or stream the movie either completely or in little sections. So far my only complaint is that there are no thumbs for each individual section so you're pretty much guessing on where the action you want is hiding. Below the latest update are 50 thumbs for other sets on the site (at this time there are about 80 total), each with a little title ("Babes Fucking," "Blonde Drinks Cum," stuff like that). Clicking on that thumb brings up new thumbnails in place of the latest update above. Very simple and effective way to display this stuff, though the thumbs below always refresh to the first page so that, if you were looking on page 2 when you found a set, you'll have to click back to that page to continue browsing there. Again, it would be nice if there were at least some vidcaps of each video so you knew what exactly went on... maybe even a real description, but this will do. What you do get is a simple category feature. You can choose to view all clips, anal, blowjob, fucking, lesbian, group or interracial clips from a little dropdown menu at the top of every page. It's not the most detailed, of course, but again, it gets the job done.
The content is pretty standard fare: mostly boy/girl hardcore with a facial ending. There's some anal and some lesbian as well, but nothing too extreme. Production quality is on the high end of modern standards I'd say- no camera clicks or light stands in the shots. It's mostly gonzo style stuff, with the ocassional interesting locale (a beach, etc.) and usually pretty good looking girls (though I didn't see much ethnic variety). It appears to me that these vids are taken from legitimate video releases (I saw Legend's name pop up), so look carefully at the previews to make sure you don't already have a bunch of this.
The downloaded and streamed files are the same resolution (448x336) and format (standard MPEG) and look pretty good at that. There's some definite fuzziness when you blow them up to full screen but at their natural size these are quite viewable. Though the speed of download is very good (I got 540KB/second on my cable connection) the streaming is of the type that requires you download the entire clip before scanning through it. So if you want to watch the full vid, I suggest just putting it on the old hard drive. I also found that some of the videos open up in their own window- no password re-entry required. But I ran into a couple that opened in Windows Media Player, asking for a password every time. It's a small but frustrating glitch in an otherwise pretty smooth system.
Also frustrating is my sudden inability to find a link from the videos back to the main page... help! Since there is no "real" main page, though, you've got to go back to the page that lists all the other sites in the network. And that's the whole shebang- you get the videos pages on BabesOnFilm then the links to the other sites. It's almost too easy! Seriously, it almost is. The other sites you get acces to are SexyBabes, DreamBabes, EuroBabez, BikiniBabes, CumminAtYa, BabesUK and RoyalBoobs. All have a similar format and the content should pretty much speak for itself.
A picture section (with video captures of their clips) and maybe a couple other little things would certainly flesh the site out more. But as a video archive site they've got a nice and simple system to presenting the content with only a couple of minor snags. I'm pretty impressed with the site design and navigation-wise but, given the fact that a lot of this content is available elsewhere on the 'net (and it's ALL available in DVD form), there should be a lot more content available here. Even the quality navigation can't change the fact that you can simply get more of the same stuff for the same price other places. This is certainly a start, but if BabesOnFilm doesn't look into getting more (and more varied) content up quickly it's going to end up on the bottom of an already large pile of archive sites with the same tired content.
