First impression

Your first visit to Karasxxx begins with a stream of pop-ups. Once you've fought off the ads for the latest penis cream and porn site "top 10 lists," however, things quickly take a turn for the better. Karasxxx boasts an Adult Video News award for best web porn site, and the depth and range of content on this "hardcore mega-site" is immediately evident. After taking the tour during which the potential subscriber is promised everything but the kitchen sink, I join up, only to find out that I've been given access to another 40 full-featured web sites as part of the bargain. Navigating all this ain't going to be easy!

For anyone new to the mega-site genre in online porn, Karasxxx is a great crash course. Even the most seasoned addicts won't be able to shuffle through everything that's on offer here, but thankfully the organization is good, making the search for the stuff that floats your boat a relatively anxiety-free experience. Being a mega-site seems to entail holding a considerable number of licensing contracts with 3rd-party suppliers, and, should you ever tire of the original content, the free access to more than 40 other porn sites, provided free with your paid membership, will quickly sort you out.

In terms of the quality of the more than half a million photos, think big name hardcore print publications (Hustler, Penthouse, Cheri, etc.) and you've got a good idea of the Karasxxx formula. Like major print publications, Karasxxx even boasts two original monthly centerfold galleries featuring top "glamour models," from 1998 to present. I'm really not too clear on what a glamour model is, but these original pictorials do feature a wide range of very beautiful women in extensive layouts. If single-girl speads aren't your thing, no bother.
Large, high-res. photo galleries are broken down into topic categories and then further subdivided into albums. Albums can be "previewed" using a convenient thumbnail feature that offers one representative shot from any given album as a navigation aid. Most albums contain several pages of high quality photos, often laid out in a roughly narrative fasion. For example, the couples' category features albums of 100 photos or more on the same couple, beginning with foreplay and quickly moving on to more, um, penetrative material.

While not particularaly novel, the generous number of photos in each album and the careful organization makes use of the "my photo album" feature a breeze. Users can select whole albums or individual shots for addition to a customizable slide-show interface, ideal for hands-free browsing. What's more, a number of the "free-access" sites available utilize the same feature, allowing an even greater range of user choice over what makes it into the slide show.

Moving on to the video section, there's, again, no shortage of material. The featured videos of the month included a Snoop Doggy Dog film, "Doggy Style," a Jenna Jameson collection, and Houston's Gang bang, while the archive (covering Lesbian, Anal, Fetish, Ethnic, Amateurs, and General Hardcore) contains easily more than 100 videos. I can't claim to have scratched the surface, but based on what I saw the streaming video is well supported and glitch free. One caveat: most of the videos that I watched in wmv format open in the main browser window within a special media player "skin" with the Fast-forward and rewind buttons disabled. In addition, I found downloading films to hard drive (using the windows "right-click, save target as" technique) impossible, and most videos seemed to stream at only two bandwidths: low and high. Minor complaints aside, there's something for every fancy in Kara's video bin, and the site seems to have the raw server capacity to cater to users with hi-bandwith web connections.

I'm a relative newbie to internet peep-show/chat rooms, so perhaps I joined Karasxxx with unfair expectations about its offer of countless free live-shows. Upon entering any of the numerous intimate web-cam rooms, however, I'm given a obvious warning: "Many of the live shows offer additional features at an additional premium; these are highly recomended, however are not required to view the live shows." Hmmm. As it turns out, the extra features Kara referrs to seem to be the "credits" (purchased via credit card, paypal, etc.) by which one hires a nude entertainer for a "private room" performance. Without these credits, one's chances of seeing much in the way of nudity seem slim. One live-show page even advises that the display of nudity in the public chatrooms is illegal. For seasoned smut surfers, this is clearly old news, but I'm still unsure of the value of all this free-access to live shows Karasxxx has to offer its paying members.

Conclusion

Whew. This one definitely lives up to the mega in mega site. There's very little Karasxxx doesn't offer and it's all wrapped in a very easy-to-navigate interface. And what Karasxxx isn't offering, you'll most likely find on one of the 40 other site you have access to.
As with other sites of this size and caliber, membership is expensive, and at $40/month prospective members might want to really consider how much time they plan to log on before joining up. For the hardcore (and high-bandwidth download junkies) the sheer volume of photo galleries and high-bandwidth videos alone may well justify the rather pricey cost of admission. For those that know their niche in the vast expanse of internet porn, however, any number of smaller sites catering to their particular tastes might provide better value, while offering a bit more "character" at the same time. Really, it's not unlike comparing little "mom and pop" stores to big shopping malls; if you're up for a trip to a sprawling porn city," consider Karasxxx the one-stop shop for you.
